Founded in 1912, the Ohio Biological Survey (OBS) was developed to provide an opportunity for a variety of organizations to collaborate, produce, publish, and disseminate biological information. Funding was originally received from the Ohio General Assembly, followed by OSU’s College of Biological Sciences in subsequent years. In 2002 OBS became a non-profit organization. The OBS membership is now comprised of metro parks, colleges, universities, agencies, museums, arboreta, zoos, and individuals. Over the past century, OBS has published an array of scholarly and general works on a wide variety of taxa and has actively participated in various research projects throughout the state of Ohio and beyond. OBS hosts the Ohio Natural History Conference, produces the quarterly newsletter BioOhio, and provides research grants for projects in all areas of natural history.
